The article examines the piano accompaniment of the aria “I Will Love You in the Next Life”, the emotional climax of the Chinese national opera “The Ballad of the Canal” by Yin Qing. Based on the plot and dramaturgical context of the aria, the texture and timbral design of the accompaniment are analysed – from the introduction with contrary motion in octaves, through the tremolo and partially broken chords, to the climactic section and the coda. The main performance issues – dynamics, breathing and phrasing, rhythmic control and pedalling – are identified, and approaches to overcoming them are proposed. Special attention is paid to the interaction between pianist and singer as a unified artistic whole. The conclusions are intended to be of practical use to singers and collaborative pianists.
