The article analyzes some of the main characteristics of the contract for the sale of inheritance under Bulgarian law, focusing on its legal nature, subject matter, and the specific deviations from the general regime of the contract of sale. It examines issues related to the transfer of the hereditary estate as a whole, liability for inheritance-related debts, the admissibility of gratuitous disposition of inheritance, and the relationship between the sale of inheritance and other related legal institutions. Particular attention is given to the practical and theoretical problems concerning the registration of the contract, as well as to inconsistencies in case law. As a result of the study, gaps in the current legal framework are
identified, and possible directions for its improvement are proposed with a view to enhancing legal certainty and predictability in civil transactions.
